Still Not Sure If Your Dog Is Able To Be Trained? That’s What I Thought Before I Discovered The Best Dog Training Ebooks That Get Incredible Results. Go Ahead, See For Yourself…

Ever wonder: Why does my dog eat poop?

It is really alarming to see your dog eating poo. Sometimes this is called coprophagia or coprophagy. Let’s face it, dogs eating their own waste or excrement is utterly disgusting.

Why Does My Dog Eat Poop…

This type of behavior by most animals is a sign of frustration, boredom, digestive problems (that lead to egesta or constipation), nutrition deficiencies, worms, bacteria issues, diarrhea or even just plain habit. It’s not a normal habit that’s for sure and it’s quite nasty. For some reason dogs don’t equate their own shit as something that is disgusting or gross.

Dogs obviously don’t have an aversion to the smell, taste or stinky odor that’s associated with poop. In my opinion guano is much more foul.

They will never  understand poop is harmful to their health and is a poison if ingested. If though it came from their anal canal and butt, it’s still nothing more than sewage. As we all know poop is a good fertilizer and can be helpful for the grass in your backyard but if you care about your canine, you need to find a solution to your dog that eats poop.

So how do you exactly prevent dogs from consuming their own feces? For a dog to eat or even consider consuming their own waste matter or stool, something has to be wrong. So how do you stop them? Is it possible to find a deterrent for this gross behavior?

Well, here are 4 steps that you can follow to prevent your dog from chewing their own dung:

1. Stop your dog from eating poop with a healthy diet:

If you want to stop your dog from eating poop, then you need to give your dog some healthy and delicious food treats. This will create more bile in their stomach and help ease their digestion. You can always start feeding your dog with dry kibble, as this particular food item has balanced nutrients and doesn’t cause that much tartar on the dog’s teeth.

However, be cautious about the kind of dry kibble that you will give to your dog. The droppings and fecal matter of a dog should not be eaten at any time. Check out its sources and make sure that the dry kibble product that you’ll be buying does not have unnecessary fillers reported about it that can harm your little puppy. Or if this food causes your dog to vomit, consult at veterinarian immediately. You can always send the stool to a medical lab that can check it to see if your dog has any diseases that you should be concerned about.

Do not stress your dog so much. Make sure that you have enough time to play with your dog. Obviously cats are another story. But you may also buy some dog toys that are safe to play with so your dog won’t even think of eating poop. Another helpful tip is to know those situations that often cause so much stress to your dog. Once you’ve identified these situations, do your very best to reduce their chances from happening. You may also resort to verbal praises to encourage your dog to behave more properly and not to eat their own bowel movements.

3. Stop your dog from eating poop by keeping your pet busy:

Keep your dogs active and preoccupied with things or activities to do. Obviously each breed of dog is different. But the reason for this is that dogs who are idle and have nothing to do are the ones that often resort to doing peculiar activities, such as eating poop! If you can conduct dog obedience training to your dog, then go for it. If you can regularly take your dog out for a walk just to exercise its muscles, then do so. If your dog is bored and has nothing to do sometimes eating their own crap or excrement is something many dogs will start to do.

However, it is understandable that some pet owners don’t have enough time to bond with their dogs as often as they wish due to their busy lifestyles. If you belong to this category of pet owners, then you can always hire a pet sitter or trainer to bond with your dog while you are away. The bottom line is that dogs eating from their evacuation or discharge is something you want to avoid at all costs and exercise is one of the best ways to do this.

4. Stop your dog from eating poop by keeping its environment clean:

Always make sure that the surroundings where your dogs or puppies usually stay are clean. Always immediately clean any poop or trash littered within and around the area where they often hang out. Do not wait for the entire poop and other dirt to accumulate as this will only pose health dangers to your pets. Even if  your dog simply bit down on some hot fecal matter, make sure to wash their mouth out immediately.

When a dog goes to the bathroom (number 2), their stool should be turned into manure not end up back in their mouths by eating it. Make sure to clean their paws as well before allowing them to enter your house.
